Shu Ha Ri

Have you heard of Shu Ha Ri?

It's a concept that comes from traditional Japanese martial arts. It describes the journey from a disciple to a master.

  • At the Shu level, you follow the rules. You repeat the moves as taught by your master, over and over again
  • At the Ha level, your practice deepens. You get a better understanding of the underlying principles and start branching out
  • At the Ri level, you embody the rules. You combine moves and create your practice

What I like about this model is the message that learning never ends. The continuous learning is important as breathing all the time. You might not get bored when you have continuous moving toward to your destiny.

The quest for the perfect move never ends.
